Pyrex
Pyrex baking dishes were discovered after a complete accident. A Corning-glass works employee brought a sawed glass battery jar home and his wife didn’t have a pan to cook a cake in. She used that jar and it cooked perfectly! So the pie pan came out in thermal-shock-resistant borosilicate glass. Later on they shifted to soda-lime glass that isn’t considered vintage.
Gold-trimming on dinnerware
The massive use of microwaves in the late 20th century killed the popular era of gold-rimmed plates because the metallic would dangerously spark inside the appliance.
